Join the Gamer Dorks Team!

Gamer Dorks is powered by a team of volunteer staff who moderate our communities, host our events, and develop our games.  And if you’re interested, you can volunteer as well!

If you haven’t yet, make sure to read the Staff Handbooks.

Base Requirements

We expect our staff to meet the following base criteria:

  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Be in our Discord server.
  • Have a good reputation with the current staff team.
  • Have no recent infractions on any Gamer Dorks community, game, or game server.
  • Have experience in or are eager to learn the skills necessary to do your job.
  • Want to assist in the development of our community and projects.

Additionally, we do not expect you to be active at all times. Feel free to join the team and contribute when you can!

We are looking for applicants in these roles:

  • Helper – Moderate and manage our community!
  • Tester – Playtest and brainstorm ideas for our Minecraft servers!
  • Artist – Assist in creating the Minecraft server resource pack!
  • Builder – Build structures for the Minecraft server!

Team Breakdown

To help you understand which team to apply for, we have provided you with this guide for what each staff team does.

Community Team

Helpers, Moderators, and Senior Moderators.

In this team, you will be managing and moderating our community and multiplayer games or game servers. It is your duty to make sure the community is safe and harmonious, and it is your duty to make sure gameplay is fair.

MANDATORY DUTIES:

  • Moderate our games, game servers, and online communities.
  • Moderators are expected to assist Helpers in the execution of their duties.
  • Senior Moderators are expected to lead the Community Management team as a whole, disciplining any member of any staff team other than Sr Mods, Sr Devs, and Administrators.

OPTIONAL DUTIES:

  • Host events on our online communities.
  • Assist in managing our social media accounts.
  • Moderate, manage, and edit our wikis.
  • Help write pages and blogs for our website.
  • Handle support tickets on our website.

JOINING THE TEAM:

  • Become a Helper by submitting an application.
  • Become a Moderator by being an active, excellent Helper, and receiving a promotion.
  • Become a Sr Mod by showing an outstanding understanding of the community and a willingness to lead the community and the staff team itself; receiving a promotion from Moderator.

Development Team

Testers, Developers, and Senior Developers.

In this team, you will be at the forefront of developing new gameplay experiences in our games and game servers. It is your duty to brainstorm, develop, and playtest the games to make them as enjoyable as they can be.

MANDATORY DUTIES:

  • Testers may playtest our games and game servers, to ensure that it is fair, fun, and free of bugs or exploits.
  • Testers will likely be required to playtest a single level, over and over again, until we determine that there are no issues.
  • Developers are expected to also assist with programming our games or configuring our Minecraft servers.
  • Senior Developers are expected to lead the creative and development teams surrounding a particular project of their own, such as a specific game on steam or game mode in the Minecraft server.

OPTIONAL DUTIES

  • Come up with ideas for new game mechanics or game features.
  • Help designing and balancing new items in our games.
  • Testers may gain limited access to our game’s code in order to assist with programming.

JOINING THE TEAM:

  • Become a Tester by submitting an application.
  • Become a Developer by having the necessary skills and willingness to develop our games or Minecraft servers; receiving a promotion from Tester.
  • Become a Senior Developer by having the necessary skills and willingness to direct a particular Gamer Dorks project and lead your particular team of project staff.

Creative Team

Artists, Builders, Musicians, Translators, and Writers.

In this team, you will be involved in all the creative endeavors that make our games unique.

ARTIST DUTIES:

  • At least one of the following:
    • Create artwork to be displayed in our video games, such as a character model.
    • Create artwork to be displayed on our game’s official listing pages, such as achievements, point shop items, trading cards, banners, or icons on our Steam page.
    • Create artwork to be displayed on our website or social media pages, such as a server icon.
    • Create textures for the Minecraft texture pack.

BUILDER DUTIES:

  • Build the structures for our Minecraft server. This includes Dreamland islands and challenges for Unboxed, generated structures for Survival, lobby and spawn regions, etc.

MUSICIAN DUTIES:

  • Create the in-game soundtracks for our video games.  These can also be used in promotional material around Gamer Dorks.

TRANSLATOR DUTIES:

  • Localize our games into other languages so that it can be distributed to people who do not speak English.

WRITER DUTIES:

  • Write the lore for our games.  This includes characters, worldbuilding, magic systems, and dialogue.

JOINING THE TEAM:

  • Become an Artist, Builder, Musician, Translator, or Writer by submitting an application.

Administration Team

The Administration Team consists of only one staff role, the Administrators.  They are the heads of all staff.

MANDATORY DUTIES:

  • Oversee the proper running of Gamer Dorks in its games, communities, and any other online or real-life presence it has.
  • Participate in all community management duties as well as some combination of creative and development duties.

JOINING THE TEAM:

  • Receive a promotion for being an exceptional Sr. Moderator OR Sr. Developer.
