Our Values
Gamer Dorks is founded upon four core values: Safety, Harmony, Integrity, and Quality. We strive to follow these in all of our endeavors, and will strive to make amends and return to our values if we ever fail.
Safety
Player safety is our first priority. We want all players to feel comfortable and confident in the knowledge that they will be treated with dignity and respect in our community.
To achieve player safety, we:
- Created a robust rule set across all our communities to protect the individual. (Learn More)
- Hired and trained a team of skilled volunteer moderators to enforce our rules.
- Develop proactive tools to prevent inappropriate content from reaching our community and to prevent cheating in our games.
- Follow best-practice security standards to prevent leaks of sensitive information.
- Pledge to never use any automated systems that put your privacy at risk.
Harmony
We believe communities should be peaceful and pleasant for everyone. We strive to create an environment where everyone can get along, in which all attempts to disturb the peace are thwarted.
To achieve community harmony, we:
- Set standards of public behavior by acting as role models for the community.
- Punish intentionally divisive and disruptive actions, even if they do not break the rules directly.
- Ensure all people are seen and heard, and that everyone is included regardless of background or demographic. (Learn More)
Integrity
Video games should be marketed and monetized with integrity. Game studios shouldn’t succeed at the expense of the people who work for them, or at the expense of their customers.
To achieve ethical business practice, we pledge to:
- Never make a game pay-to-win.
- Never make our games or any gameplay elements ludicrously expensive.
- Localize game prices so that they’re affordable for everyone, regardless of nationality.
- Ensure employees are paid a fair living wage, never hiring employees we can’t afford.
- Treat volunteers as volunteers, as a person who owns their time and who never needs to give that up.
Quality
We seek to create the best possible experience for everyone in our games. We refuse to cut corners or release any half-baked games as “complete.”
To achieve quality content, we:
- Will never use generative AI in any part of the development process.
- Listen to and actively encourage player feedback.
- Frequently update our games and release new content, when appropriate.
- Will not shy away from trying out new ideas.
- Pledge to clearly mark any unfinished projects as unfinished if they are released to the public, providing ample disclaimers for what may change.
- Make any discontinued project open source so that fans can continue the project if they wish.
